The University of Sioux Falls, or USF for short, is a private liberal arts university, affiliated with the American Baptist Churches USA, located in Sioux Falls, which is a city in the US state of South Dakota, serving as the county seat of Minnehaha County, with a population estimated at a number of over 123 000 inhabitants, during the 2000 census.
USF was established in 1883, being founded by pastors and delegates of nine Baptist Churches, first starting as Dakota Collegiate Institute, its current name being adopted in 1885, when it was reorganized and graduated its first four-year class.
Today, the University of Sioux Falls has an enrollment of approximately 1600 students, and offers undergraduate and graduate studies, in various areas areas, as well as a degree completion program and an Honors program.
USF's sports teams call themselves the Cougars, and they compete in NCAA Division II, since April, 2009, when they voted to leave NAIA, and USF made application, the Cougars being accepted, then, to enter a candidacy period for NCAA Division II.
Their distinctive colors are purple, silver and white.
